Pretend you are a detective looking for a chink in Le Colonial’s armor. My money says you won’t find one. Dine outside in the inner courtyard featuring mosaic tile floors & a vaulted pressed-tin ceiling. Dine inside in the quiet, elegant dining room. I promise you will not have to yell. Dine upstairs in a more casual setting. Comfortable couches on faded Oriental rugs await you. If you are not quite ready for dinner, enjoy sumptuous cocktails & appetizers. I promise the conversation will taste better. Should I mention you can actually enjoy a cigar after your meal without disturbing non-smokers? I will mention they are Diner’s Choice winner 2010 and recipient of Wine Spectator 2008 Award of Excellence. You are now ready for exquisite French Vietnamese cuisine.
My out-of-town guests ordered Ca Chien (pan roasted black cod) and Thit-Bo (grilled honey-soy marinated NY steak). My artist friend, Yolanda, ordered Ca Hap La Chuoi (steamed Chilean sea bass wrapped in banana leaves). I ordered Bo Luc Lac (wok seared filet mignon). The appetizers I chose were Thit Kho Chien (Berkshire pork bellies) & Xa Lach Buoi (baby field greens with red grapefruit & cashews). Their dinner menu is wonderfully short. If you know Vietnamese food, you can decide quickly. If not, simply order what I did and you will have a wonderful meal. One more thing, the Ca Chien comes with wilted spinach. Don’t be alarmed.
I will leave the lengthy wine & drink list to you. I would suggest having drinks while deciding on drinks. I am amused by the drinks immersed in lush tropical flora. If you like ‘em, they’ve got ‘em. I am told they are delicious. I don’t remember dessert.
