Glenmorangie 25
Daniel tends the Postrio bar. Last week he poured the second best old-fashioned I’ve drank. My test for a good bartender is building an old-fashioned. The only criterion one needs is to call their bourbon. Since I’ve been drinking these for a few decades, I highly recommend you pay Daniel a visit. If he builds one for you, watch closely. He will opt for Peychaud’s bitters rather than Angostura’s and believes in the darker, Parisian cherries rather than the bright red Maraschinos. And, when served, a delicately carved orange rind will successfully balance on the rim of your glass.
If bourbon is not your choice, a 21 page drinks index awaits you. One notable North American Whiskey is Crown Royal XR. If you hurry, there may be shot or two left. A cherished International Whiskey available is Johnnie Walker Blue. If you enjoy blended Scotch, this is a must drink. If it must be single malt, bring two very good friends or colleagues and order Glenmorangie 25. Delectable discussion will ensue.
If it is nostalgia’s night out, vintage cocktails are in order. Ask for Hemmingway’s “Farewell to Arms”, James Bond’s “The Vesper”, New Orleans’ The Sazerac Cocktail” or Postrio’s West Coast “Italian Stallion”.
Holy cow! I forgot about the cow. Order the grilled hanger steak with asparagus, artichokes and new potatoes resting under au poivre sauce. If you disavow cow, order miso cod fish and chips, togarashi fries and garlic-ginger dipping sauce.
Dessert instructions: hold the menu with your right hand, close both eyes, place your left index finger on the menu, open your eyes and learn you’ve made the correct choice.

P.S. The best old-fashioned was poured across town by a young bartender. Alas, he disappeared quickly to a remote island in the South Pacific.
